Curiosity Lab is a living laboratory in metro Atlanta where emerging technologies are brought to life and validated in real‑world city environments. More than just a testbed, Curiosity Lab is a collaboration hub—one that accelerates pilots, strengthens partnerships, and helps innovative solutions move from concept to city‑scale impact.
It’s easy to see why Urban Hawk was a strong fit. Our collaboration with Curiosity Lab and the City of Peachtree Corners was formalized in April 2025. Through the deployment of nine cameras, this initiative gave us an opportunity to demonstrate the true capability and value of our platform.
The goal was clear: collect high‑quality imagery and deliver actionable, decision‑ready intelligence. While our primary focus was an AI‑driven Pavement Condition Index (PCI) assessment, we also delivered a comprehensive inventory of light poles and utility poles.
By late summer, we were sharing our work at ITS World Congress in Atlanta and participating as a featured stop along Curiosity Lab’s affiliated Tech Tour. Through small‑group breakout sessions, we demonstrated how Urban Hawk’s AI‑powered insights transform complex visual data into proactive strategies for decision‑makers. We also assessed our ability to offload data at the edge, made possible by T‑Mobile, which supplied several hotspots at no cost to support this effort. From there, the collaboration went global as we co‑exhibited in the Curiosity Lab Pavilion during the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona.
Fast‑forward to today—Urban Hawk is being showcased in a live demo at the Curiosity Lab of Peachtree Corners. The collected data is visualized through an Esri ArcGIS Online dashboard, showcasing Urban Hawk’s end‑to‑end capabilities and giving city leaders and decision‑makers a firsthand look at the insights currently being used by the City of Peachtree Corners.
What’s next? Lessons were learned, hardware was refined, and data quality improved. As future efforts continue to take shape, a forthcoming case study will outline key takeaways and results from this collaboration.
This has been a productive and rewarding partnership, and we’re excited to build on the momentum ahead. Stay tuned for what we tackle next as this work enters its next phase.
